July 4th Decorations and Party Pics

So the 4th came and went and our party was great. Pics later in this post, but first I wanted to show the decorations I made and give a shout out to the blogs I got the ideas from!

These are path lights that I made using mason jars, cheap solar lights, food coloring and modge podge. The intention was red, white and blue, but I thought the yellow was prettier than just clear.
I saw the tutorial over at The Hand Me Down House.

I made the center piece from clay pots. I spray painted the pots, added some stickers from the dollar store, and added some stars and letters and walla. I think it turned out pretty good...and cheap! I already had everything to make it. I had another one I was working on but didn't get it finished in time.
I got the idea from one of my favorite site favecrafts.com.

These are just mason jars, tissue paper and Modge Podge. Got to love Modge Podge!! They are really pretty with a candle in them!

I tin punched and painted some coffee cans for candle holders too but the pics are being difficult, so maybe later.

On to the party. We had a great time. Lots of food, fun, friends, family and fireworks. Oh and some waterballoon volleyball and kickball! Here is a slide. Hope you had a great holiday too!

Repurposed Skirt

Nana gave me some clothes that I thought I could reuse and make something for Emi. My first to use was this purple broom stick skirt. I cut the top two sections off for me and made her a dress out of the bottom section.

I had this material and lace in my stash. She loves the dress.

And most importantly it passes the spin test!!

Well Hello Again!!

Oh my gosh! I can't believe how long it has been since I posted on here...and I thought I was going to do better...that lasted as long as my last diet did! :) We have had a busy 6 months since I posted last. I will probably make several posts to catch up!!

So I guess first I will post a couple of Easter pics. We had several hunts as always...comes with having a big family. We also had a small on here at the house for my nieces, Emily and the little boys I keep, Weston. Here is a slide of Easter pics.

Christmas 2009 Scrapbook

Well I made this digital scrapbook for our Christmas photos today. It is from Smilebox. If you have never tried Smilebox you should. It is so easy..just pick the design you like and drag and drop your pics. I can email and post it or print it. This one was $3.99. I would have spent that much just for paper to do one page. It would have been free if I didn't want to be able to print it out. But I like to print them out and put them in their books.

Anyway this year for Christmas we did the traditional making cookies and going to Interlochen to see the lights. But we also took a trip and spent the night at the Bass Pro Shops in Grapevine and then went to the Gaylord Texas Ice show the next day. Their theme this year was The Grinch. It was really neat. All that colored ice reminded me of popsicles. We wore blue coats that they provided over our regular coats and still froze! Dylan was really worried that Emily would get lost since all the little ones their looked alike so he kept a close eye on her. He is very protective of that girl! After the ice exhibit we went to Grapevine Mills Mall and let Emily go to Build-A-Bear. She made a kitty. I was really proud of the outfit she picked out for it. She could have gotten princess costumes and such, but she just picked out a t-shirt and shorts. Very practical choice I thought. The boys went there when they were little so they already had a turn at it.

We went to Billie and Jacks on Christmas Eve like usually only this time we almost had to spend the night. We were there all day and an ice situation snuck up on us. We hadn't watched the weather for being so busy and didn't know it was going to turn nasty. It was snowing and the wind was really blowing but we had no idea the roads were getting that bad. It took us a hour and a half to get home from Millsap - a 15 min. drive. Jason and Robin had gone to get new puppies in the metro mess and it got them too. They ended up spending the night with a friend in Willow Park after being stuck on I30 for hours. The boys had stayed with her mom so luckily they weren't in it. Christmas morning she called me and told me where everything was and Justin and I went down and got it all ready for them.

Dylan got an iPod touch, Justin got a laptop and Emily got a Power Wheels 4-wheeler and a baby. She didn't get too excited over the 4-wheeler cause she couldn't ride it from all the snow. Her and Justin tried but the wheels just spun. We had dinner here with Tommy, Kay, Kay's Mom and her Son, Josh and Maw and Grandad. It was really special since we nearly lost Grandad this summer. He has gained most of his weight back but it really took its toll on him. Christmas Eve was their 65th wedding anniversary. Can you believe that? 65 Years! They have been through sooooo much but have stuck it out. What an example for all their grandkids...and their is lots of us...and more on the way!!

On the 26th we went to Daddy's for the fun over there. The living room was one great big heap of wrapping paper as usual. Our chinese Christmas grew even more this year with the addition of Dylan moving up. We let them move up if they want to at 13.

Even though there was snow we didn't get to play in it much since we had dinner at our house. The boys both got electronics and absorbed in them. By the next day most of it was melted...but that is Texas for ya. Hope you had a great holiday. Send me some pics.

Thinking of Spring

I have been trying not to watch so much TV..not so much watch it but not having it on all the time. I usually have it on Nick during the day and the kids just watch it every now and then. It is basically just noise...like we need more. Yesterday I turned it off at 12:30 when we started our school time. We didn't turn it back on until after 7:00. Paul and Justin played Dora with Emily. She has gotten really good at playing pretend since Cathryn started coming, sometimes they fight over a pretend toy! Emily was Dora of course, Justin was Boots, and Paul was Swipper. They made a jail for Swipper with the bar stools, Paul drew them a map complete with a river to cross. All over the house they ran and played for over an hour. Emily pretended to be rowing while scooting her butt on the floor to cross the river and then would get up and cheer cause they "did it"! It was so cute and I wish I would have gotten a video. Paul sure enjoyed that much more than watching the news!

I am sitting here surfing the net planning my spring garden. I think that I am going to try my hand some early crops like lettuce and spinach. I have found some ideas on how to keep them warm and protect them from freezes. I also am going to try to start seedlings this year instead of buying the plants. They are over priced anyway! I found an idea on using newspaper to make seedling pots. You can just plant the newspaper and all. I have lots of want to and I'm not sure how much can do I have. I want to make a compost pile, some flower gardens, and I need to paint the porch, replace the post that Paul hit with the tractor...etc. Oh and anyone know how to keep chickens off the porch? I love the eggs but and so TIRED of all the chicken poop. They love to gather right outside the door and make such a mess...and this was Jason's and Paul's brain child that I take care of. Oh well! Well have a great day!!

A New Year

Well it's a new year again and a new decade. I wonder what the year will bring. I probably don't want to know. I was going to buy a journal to keep stuff in but then just decided to use this blog. It won't get lost that way. I will post pictures and stories behind them to keep a record for my scrapbooking. I am bad about forgetting the story behind the pic...or getting it wrong according to Dylan. One of the things that I want to get done this year is to scan all our regular pics. We want to have a backup of everything and this way it will be easy let everyone have a copy if they want one. We also want to document names and dates for our kids and grandkids someday. We are also going to use Flikr for an off site backup. It's only $24 a year...small price to pay I think. I couldn't imagine having a fire and loosing all those memories. I am also starting to think about my garden for this year. I am hoping that my back will cooperate...probably not, but I am stubborn and will do it anyway! I am going to start my own seeds and try some different varieties this time. I am also going to transfer some stuff from my website to my blog, like images for notepad orders. My domain name expired and even though I have a year left on the hosting I think I would rather just put everything on here, besides this is free. So no one will probably read this, but at least it will serve a purpose for me.

Emily's Dance Class

Emily had her 2nd dance class yesterday. She is shy the 1st half of the class and then gets into it for the second half. She did better after I went up on stage with her. She has so much fun and is excited all day when she knows she is going that day. I loved watching her little curls bounce up and down. With curls, tutu and her ruffle socks she reminded me of Shirley Temple. But that is probably just because I'm the mom. Watching her I was just so proud and thankful...and its just her 2nd class! There is so much love that surrounds this little girl! ....But back down to earth, I am fixing to put her in the corner if she doesn't straighten up!!

I made her tutu. Tammy (the teacher) really liked it and said that she just knew that I could sell them. These are so easy to make! I am going to make her some other colors. Email me if you're interested. Justin took these pics. I am not sure what setting he had the camera on, obviously not the correct one. Oh well.

Vacation 2009

So we are back from our vacation. We headed for cooler weather and went to Ruidoso, NM. We really had a great time. I found a little guest house to rent for only $100 a night. It was really nice!!! (www.mountainappleplace.com if anyone wants info) We only stopped and got out once. It is an 8 hour trip one way. Emily was soooo good. Not one whine, cry or complaint there or back! The boys were good too. We played putt putt, went fishing and caught crawdads which we cooked and we all ate, surfed the White Sands, shopped and played some golf. Everyone had a great time and we didn't want to come home. It was about 88 the 1st day but then cooled down and it didn't get above 75 after that, except at White Sands - but even that wasnt as hot as it was at home!! It rained everyday and we found out that when you are in the mountains the lightening is just that much closer to you...and it looks it too!! We didn't want to come home!! I just kept telling myself that if we lived there I would get tired of it just like anything else. It worked for just a minute or so. I am hoping that next year we can go to Florida. I figure we have one more summer before Dylan has to start getting summer jobs and stuff. Better enjoy it while we can.

Well once again I have applied to be on a Creative Team? Why? I'm not real sure...I love digital scrapbooking. I am addicted to searching blogs and seeing all the talented designers out there. I don't think I want to design, but I wouldn't mind doing quick pages and calenders. Here are the layouts I submitted to Sweet Blossom Designs.

Emily woke up this morning throwing up all over. She has a bad virus, bless her heart. It is so pitiful to see a sick child, especially when you have done all you can and they still feel like crap. They just look at you like, "Is that all you got?" I sure hope the rest of us don't get it - I HATE to puke!! Well anyway, Justin got baptized on the 18th. He was really excited and really proud, as he should be. Oh, I ordered some stuff to add more items to my website. I am going to start making photo italian charm bracelets, rings and pendants. I am so excited, they are going to be so pretty!! I'll post pics when I get the first ones done...of course you will get a discount. A girl at work is also going to let me have a shot at making her wedding invitations. Something I have always wanted to do so we will so how that goes. Well gotta go now, have a great day!!!!

Long time no post!

It has been a while since I posted anything. With the holidays and all we get real busy and I have been working lots of extra hours. So since the last post ... Lets see, Max came back. He had ran off with our neighbors dog that was in heat. He came home limping and we thought he had broke his leg or got hit by a car. We took him to the vet and it was just dislocated. He is much better know and back to his old self. I guess I am a big meanie because I found a new home for Jack, our dachsund. The boys and I agreed when we got him that if they didn't take care of him I would find him a new home. And of course they tend to him if we ride their butts!! Did you feed Jack today? Did you clean out his cage? Of course not, or they claim they did it when they didn't. I got him on the spur of the moment and didn't think it through. Anyway he is going to a family that already has one dachsund. He will have lots of fun there and be spoiled terribly. The boys don't really seem upset about it so I guess its the right decision. Emily likes him but she is too little to remember ever even having him. She will probably see pictures when she is 14 and hate me for it. Oh well, if that is the worst thing she can find to hate me for I'm doing pretty good!

We had a great Christmas. The boys got PSPs and Em got a kitchen with lots of food and dishes. Her and the boys go cook all the time! Oh, and I got published! A digital scrapbook page I did got published in an online magazine called Scrap N'Art. I thought it was pretty cool. This is the page.

I really doubt that anyone reads this. I guess I use it like a journal of type. Anyway I had an outpatient surgery to take care of my kidney stone woes. The doc said that I must have already passed the stone, but that my bladder was extremely infected. He told Paul that I had good reason to be hurting. That always makes me feel a little better that I wasn't imagining things.

Anyway hard to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving already. I usually put up my Christmas tree this weekend. Not sure if I will get that done or not. I dont want to run the risk of undoing anything that the doc did. I want to do it while Emi is in bed anyway so she will be surprised. "Wow, pretty, wow!" is what she says at the trees at Wal-mart.

On a sadder note, when we came home yesterday Max, our german sheppard was missing. He is still not home. Paul is really upset. He had started to lock him up each day when we leave, but he just hates the idea of him being in that kennel all day. He had just gotten him where he was minding better. I may make lost flyers and put them in the neighbors mailboxes tomorrow.

Guess its time to get off my rear and get things done, although I don't know why, they never stay done. Its like spinning your wheels in sand, you work hard and it still looks the same. Even worse after the boys get home.

Well, another Halloween gone by. Emily had such a sugar rush last night. I will post pics of the costumes tomorrow. So, I had a CT Scan on Thursday and the doctor called and said, "Congratulations you are the proud owner of a kidney stone." woohoo! Oh and it is stuck and they are going to have to go get it. I'm sure that you can imagine what that will involve. ouch!

Well anyway, should I be so lucky that any digital designers actually look at this, I really want to be on someones CT. I have been scrapping for 3years and digital for 6 mos or so. I use Gimp for my layouts. I did this one this morning using the "Chance of Rain" kit from Bon Scrapatit Designs. I thought it turned out good, what do you think?
